MAGNO Consortium & Review Meeting in Vimercate:
Over the past days, the MAGNO consortium gathered in Vimercate (Milan), Italy, for an important milestone in the project’s journey: our latest Consortium Meeting, combined with the official Review Meeting.
Hosted by our partner DNV, the meeting brought together representatives from across the consortium to reflect on progress achieved, address challenges openly, and plan the next steps in transforming EU food packaging systems through sustainable and circular strategies.
Looking Back: Progress Across Work Packages
During the meeting we focused on reviewing the work carried out over the past months. Each Work Package shared updates on scientific developments, stakeholder engagement activities, communication actions, and pilot initiatives.
From research on packaging design trends and environmental impact assessment to consumer awareness efforts, the discussions highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of MAGNO. Progress in one area is deeply connected to advances in others. This integrated approach remains one of the project’s strongest assets.
The Review Meeting offered an opportunity to present results, reflect critically on achievements, and receive constructive feedback. Such moments are essential. They ensure that the project remains aligned with its objectives, maintains scientific rigor, and continues delivering relevant and impactful outcomes.
But beyond reporting, the meeting was also forward-looking. Partners shared their next steps and upcoming activities, coordination needs, and opportunities to strengthen collaboration across Work Packages.
The Value of Meeting Face to Face
While much of our collaboration happens online, gathering in person remains invaluable. Informal conversations between sessions, spontaneous problem-solving discussions, and moments of shared reflection contribute to stronger coordination and a deeper sense of collective purpose.
Hosting the meeting in Vimercate also reinforced the importance of cross-sector collaboration. As a consortium that spans research institutions, technology developers, industry actors, and communication specialists, MAGNO thrives on diversity of expertise and perspective.
Moving Forward Together
As MAGNO enters the next phase of implementation, the energy and clarity gained during this Consortium and Review Meeting will guide our work. The challenges surrounding plastic packaging, circularity, and sustainability are complex, but so is the expertise within our consortium.
We leave Vimercate with renewed motivation, clearer priorities, and strengthened partnerships.
Below, we have included a selection of images from the meeting, capturing moments of discussion, collaboration, and shared commitment.
Together, we continue designing pathways toward more sustainable and circular food packaging systems in Europe.
