There is now a growing interest in exploring agricultural biomass as a potential source for the formulation of biocomposites for packaging.
This study by the University of Cordoba, in which the University of Girona also participates, claims that through a semi-chemical and mechanical process by which leaves and branches are mixed with soda, refined and defibrated, the fibres of the woody residues of avocado pruning can be isolated and used as a reinforcing material, replacing part of the bioplastic used in food packaging.
