MAGNO brings together experts to explore Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design in practice
On 30 September 2026, the MAGNO project held its online Workshop on Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD), bringing together experts and stakeholders to discuss how safety and sustainability can be integrated into the design and development of new products, materials and processes.
Organised by Kveloce in collaboration with IRISS – International SSbD Community, the workshop gathered perspectives from the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC), IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, IDENER.AI and Kveloce, combining expertise in the European SSbD framework, sustainability assessment, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), social sustainability and digital tools.
Throughout the two-hour session, Alejandra Pita, Gabriela Munares, Giulio Bracalente, Jutta Hildenbrand, Lucia Mancini and Juan Antonio Pavón approached SSbD from their respective areas of expertise, providing participants with a broader view of both the methodological framework and some of the considerations involved in putting it into practice.
The presentations were followed by a joint discussion that explored questions such as how sustainability assessment results can become credible and meaningful for consumers and end users, how complex technical information can be communicated without losing methodological integrity, and what existing digital platforms and dashboards can teach us about making sustainability information more accessible.
The workshop also provided an opportunity for participants to raise their own questions and exchange perspectives with the speakers, contributing to a wider conversation around the practical implementation of SSbD.
Thank you to all our speakers and participants for joining us and contributing to the discussion!
