MAGNO Workshop: Innovation in Food Packaging: Comparing Supply Chain Priorities

On 23 October 2026, the MAGNO project will hold a new collaborative workshop in Cesena, Italy, bringing together stakeholders from different stages of the food supply chain to discuss current challenges, priorities and innovations in food packaging.

Organised by DNV within the MAGNO project, with the support of Food Hub, the in-person workshop will create a space for exchange between research and industry, with a particular focus on the perspectives of packers, warehouses and retailers.

Food packaging innovation does not affect every part of the supply chain in the same way. Different actors face different operational needs and priorities, and the workshop will explore how emerging technologies and solutions could respond to them.

The discussion will cover innovations such as AI, computer vision and robotics for packaging customisation and right-sizing, as well as smart warehouse technologies for inventory management, automation and logistics optimisation. From the retail perspective, participants will also explore solutions including dynamic pricing, intelligent replenishment systems and food quality monitoring.

Following an introduction to the MAGNO project, the main part of the afternoon will be dedicated to a collaborative workshop where participants will be able to exchange perspectives on food packaging challenges and the potential application of these innovations across the supply chain. The event will conclude with an informal networking session.
