SUMMARY:BIO4PACK Cluster Workshop: Shaping the Future of Sustainable Food Packaging
DESCRIPTION:BIO4PACK Cluster Workshop: Shaping the Future of Sustainable Food Packaging\n  \nThe upcoming workshop offers a unique opportunity for stakeholders\, researchers\, and policymakers to engage directly with the leading scientists and innovators driving the packaging transition. Over the course of 90 minutes\, participants will gain insights into each project\, explore synergies\, and contribute to a dialogue about the future of food packaging. \nIn it\, BIO4PACK Cluster\, brings together four ambitious Horizon Europe projects — ViSS\, REBIOLUTION\, STOPP\, and MAGNO — with one common mission: to revolutionize food packaging. By developing innovative solutions that are greener\, smarter\, and truly sustainable\, these projects aim to reduce dependence on fossil plastics\, promote circular design\, ensure safety for people and the planet\, and guide the creation of new European standards. This is what our cluster is about and we would like to bring you in. \nThe workshop will take place online on Thursday\, 6 November\, from 12:00 to 13:30 (CET). Participation is free but registration is required. Please fill in the registration form here to secure your spot and receive the event link. \nFor that we count on Dr. Wael Hamd as moderator. He is is Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Balamand (Lebanon) with a PhD in Chemical Process Engineering from the University of Limoges (France). His research focuses on catalysis\, nanomaterials\, and environmental technologies\, with several international experiences in France and Lebanon. \nWithin the MAGNO project\, Dr. Hamd coordinates key activities on packaging safety\, environmental impact assessment\, and regulatory alignment. His leadership ensures that scientific advances are connected to real-world applications and to the policy frameworks shaping the future of sustainable packaging in Europe. \n  \nCluster projects:\nViSS Project \nThe ViSS project will present its advances in developing sustainable packaging materials and solutions designed to meet industrial performance requirements while reducing environmental impact. \nREBIOLUTION Project \nThe REBIOLUTION project will showcase its work on next-generation biopolymers and the innovative pathways it is developing to replace fossil-based plastics in packaging. \nSTOPP Project \nThe STOPP project will present its cutting-edge research on recyclable\, reusable\, and biodegradable food packaging\, demonstrating how packaging can be designed to close the loop and reduce waste. \nMAGNO Project \nThe MAGNO project will introduce its approach to integrating digital tools\, such as traceability systems and digital twins\, to improve recycling efficiency and decision-making. \n  \nWhy Attend?\nThis workshop is more than just a series of presentations — it is a platform to: \n\nDiscover breakthrough innovations in bio-based and circular food packaging.\nEngage with experts working at the forefront of sustainable materials science.\nExplore synergies among European projects tackling similar challenges.\nContribute ideas to shape new standards and policies for the packaging industry.\n\n  \nAbout BIO4PACK\nAs highlighted in the BIO4PACK factsheet\, the cluster unites four projects around five core objectives: \n\nReplacing fossil plastics with bio-based materials.\nDesigning packaging for circularity from the start.\nEnsuring safety for people and the planet with transparent assessments.\nHarnessing smart technologies to boost traceability and recycling.\nContributing to European standards and policies that promote sustainability.\n\nTogether\, the BIO4PACK Cluster is an essential stop for all stakeholders in the packaging value chain\, from researchers and innovators to policymakers and industry leaders. By fostering collaboration and sharing knowledge\, the cluster sets the stage for a new era of sustainable food packaging in Europe that is both environmentally responsible and economically viable.
